ACTIVE TRAVEL - HAVE YOUR SAY
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council has an aspiration to be carbon neutral by 2030. To achieve that, we will need fewer people using cars and more people walking and cycling.
The current TMBC Cycling Strategy is out of date, so we are developing a new Active Travel Strategy. This will identify a network of cycle routes used to make short journeys instead of driving.
As KCC hold responsibility for transport, TMBC cannot agree these routes ourselves. However increasingly often we are being given funding opportunities for active travel and this strategy will help determine where we want funding prioritised. This will prevent the botched implementation of previous ideas, as our wish list will be sorted and analysed in advance.
With the help of DHA Planning a series of 'route audits' was conducted. This assessed certain areas for suitability. Before agreeing the Active Travel Strategy, we are asking for your thoughts on what DHA have put together.
Tonbridge and Malling has been split into four broad areas for the purposes of this piece of work, and I have put the suggestions here for each of these areas.
This is very much a 'long-list' and includes some assumptions which might not come off. For example, it assumes there will be development at Broadwater Farm and Borough Green Gardens. Including these in the consultation doesn't make development here any more or less likely, but DHA simply used the previous strategic sites to look ahead when doing the work started back in 2019.
Some of these routes will be great, others will be awful. But ultimately we wanted everyone to share their views as much as possible before ruling anything in or out.
You can do so using this link here. The consultation closes on 18 April 2022
