After 40 years outstanding service to the residents of Tonbridge, Edenbridge and Malling, Sir John Stanley has recently announced his retirement. He will be stepping down at the next General Election.
The Executive Council of the Tonbridge, Edenbridge and Malling Conservative Association has voted overwhelmingly to hold an Open Primary for the selection of the new Conservative candidate.
What does this mean?
Traditionally political parties have selected their candidates behind closed doors in meetings attended only by paid-up members. For many years this has been the accepted way of doing things. But politics is changing - and so are we!
With an Open Primary the applicants will present themselves at an open meeting which all local residents will be invited to attend. Residents can ask the applicants questions, test their strengths and weaknesses, and then vote on who should be the Conservative candidate.
