The announcement that the next Conservative Government will freeze regulated rail fares for the whole of the next Parliament is welcome news.
Our excellent Parliamentary Candidate Tom Tugendhat has been championing rail users in the constituency, spending time with rail traveller groups across the area - the Tonbridge Line Commuters and the Edenbridge and District Rail Travellers Association - which do such great work campaigning for rail users and would like to do more.
This new policy recognises that the cost of commuting is one of the biggest household bills that hardworking families face and it is something we are determined to bear down on by limiting fare rises. Because of the difficult decisions that we have taken to repair the economy, we have been able to freeze regulated fare rises in real terms for the past two years. If elected in May, we’d continue that freeze for the next five years.
