Setting out his bold manifesto for the county, Craig Mackinlay officially launched his campaign to be Kent's first Police & Crime Commissioner. In his five-point plan for policing, Craig commits to a revolutionary "no broken window" approach to dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour in the county.
Craig's manifesto can be read in full below:
Zero tolerance to drugs and anti-social behaviour
- Strongest action and sanctions against drug dealers by the police and the criminal justice system, with enhanced help for those seeking to get off drugs.
- Anti-social behaviour destroys communities; police and local authorities will act quickly and decisively to make the ‘no-broken window’ promise a reality.
Accountability and responsibility
- Regular public meetings with the Police and Crime Commissioner, senior police and those at the top of the criminal justice system for Kent residents to express their concerns and to be heard.
- Improved communication using technology to report crime and keep updated on progress with reported crime. Open, transparent information will increase confidence and detection rates.
Safer communities
- There is no such thing as insignificant or victimless crime, victims will be at the heart of all that we do.
- The voice of the law-abiding majority will be supported. The Police and Crime Plan will match your priorities with action based upon evidence-based results, statistics and critical research.
Strengthening the front line
- Efficient budgeting, tough procurement and less bureaucracy will protect numbers and release police back to the streets. As a Chartered Accountant, I am best placed to find the savings at this time of necessary budget reductions.
- An increased force of volunteer Specials and reservists will improve visibility and deliver real additions to front-line policing, particularly in rural areas.
United against crime
- Crime reduction is a joint enterprise between the police, local authorities, criminal justice, community and charity groups; none will work in isolation.
- The PCC will have a unique mandate and the budget to bring all agencies together to reduce crime. The PCC role is about “The totality of crime reduction”.
