The former Beales unit has been empty since Beales entered administration in 2020. The shop operated on a sub-lease from Sainsbury’s, who have the long-term interest on the unit.
For nearly 3 years the premium unit at the heart of Tonbridge has been empty. In a time when it is more important than ever to support our High Street and Town Centre, this is unacceptable. The Beales unit is the largest in Tonbridge currently unoccupied and this needs to change, quickly.
Sainsbury’s have still to come forward to the town with any plans for use of the space and are the only organisation that can do so due to the lease arrangement they have. Despite multiple requests from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, Tom Tugendhat MP and local organisations such as Tonbridge Civic Society, we are still in the dark about what they plan for the unit.
We are very concerned this is slipping off their radar, so we have launched a petition asking you to support our campaign to bring forward plans for the former store. There are multiple good ideas that would benefit our community that Sainsbury’s ought to consider – from using it as a long-term solution to the Post Office, sub-dividing the space into smaller units or as part of a wider expansion and regeneration of Sainsbury’s.
Please sign and share our petition to Sainsbury’s asking them to bring forward plans immediately for its renovation.
